How a cash-out price is built, when taking it makes sense, why partial cash-out changes the shape of a bet, and what happens when a market suspends.

01

What cash out is

Cash out converts an open bet into a settlement now. The operator quotes a figure based on current prices for the outcomes still to be decided.

It is a convenience rather than a fair exit, because the operator’s margin is applied a second time when the quote is built.

02

The honest test

Ask one question: would you place the remaining bet at the price the offer implies? If yes, let it run. If no, taking the money is reasonable.

That question removes most of the emotion, which is what cash out is designed to work on.

03

Why the offer moves so fast

The quote is rebuilt every time the underlying prices change. During a live match that can be several times a minute, and it will move sharply around a goal.

Markets also suspend while prices are rebuilt, and a cash-out request sent into a suspension is simply not accepted. That is normal rather than a fault.

Partial cash out

Some operators let you take part of the value and leave the rest running. That turns one bet into two smaller positions with different risk.

It is useful when a slip has become larger than you are comfortable carrying. It is not a way to guarantee a profit, because the remaining part still has to win.

05

Cash out on a multiple

On an accumulator the quote compounds the margin across every remaining leg, so the offer is usually worse relative to the real chance than on a single.

On a long slip that has already been lucky, that worse price may still be the sensible exit. [Multibet](/multibet/) explains why the structure works that way.

06

Free bets and cash out

Cashing out a bet placed with a free-bet token usually collapses the value to close to what has already been won, removing the upside you took the price for.

If you would want to cash out a free bet, the better decision was a shorter price in the first place. [Free bets](/free-bets/) covers that settlement rule.

07

When it genuinely helps

When the match state has changed in a way you did not expect, when the slip no longer matches any opinion you hold, or when the amount at stake has stopped being comfortable.

Those are real reasons. Taking a small profit purely because the button is there is the habit the feature was built to encourage.

Questions, answered

How is a cash out price calculated?

From current prices for the outcomes still to be decided, with the operator’s margin applied again. That is why it is below the true value of the position.

Should I cash out?

Ask whether you would place the remaining bet at the implied price. If not, taking the offer is reasonable.

Why did my cash out fail?

The market was probably suspended while prices were rebuilt, which happens around goals and other incidents. The request is simply not accepted.

What is partial cash out?

Taking part of the value and leaving the rest running. It splits one bet into two positions; it does not guarantee a profit.

Is cash out worse on accumulators?

Usually, because the margin compounds across every remaining leg of the slip.
